Integrating and uploading variable pay data

Submitting your variable pay data allows you to access Ravio’s real-time variable pay benchmarks. This guide explains the two ways to provide this information – via spreadsheet upload or your HRIS – so you can compare your total compensation packages against the market.

Overview

Variable pay, such as bonuses or commissions, is a critical component of a competitive compensation strategy. By sharing your variable pay plans with Ravio, you gain insights into how other companies in your peer group structure their performance-based pay, ensuring your total cash offerings are defensible and attractive.

Prerequisites

  • Permission level: Admin only.

  • Data needed: Details of variable pay eligibility and amounts for each employee.

  • Template: The official ‘Ravio - Variable Compensation Template’ (if using spreadsheet upload).

🚀 Step-by-step instructions

Option 1: Spreadsheet upload

This is the quickest way to submit data if your variable pay information is not currently synced via your HRIS.

  1. Download the Ravio - Variable Compensation Template from the platform.

  2. Enter the data for every employee who is eligible for variable pay.

  3. Navigate to Manage > Variable Pay Data.

  4. Click the Upload button and select your completed file.

  5. Review the data preview to ensure all fields are mapped correctly before finalising the submission.

Option 2: HRIS data integration

If you already have variable pay information stored in your HRIS, you can automate the benchmarking process.

  1. Identify the specific field name used for variable pay data within your HRIS (e.g. ‘Target Bonus’ or ‘Commission %’).

  2. Reach out to your Customer Success Manager or use the live chat function to speak with the Ravio team.

  3. Confirm the field name with our team so we can map it to our benchmarks.

  4. Once mapped, your variable pay data will refresh automatically whenever changes occur in your HRIS.

Tips and tricks

  • Be comprehensive: Ensure you provide data for all eligible employees, not just those who received a payout. This helps create a more accurate benchmark of ‘target’ variable pay across the market.

  • Check your mapping: If you use different variable plans for different teams (e.g. Sales vs. Engineering), make sure this is clearly reflected in your upload or HRIS field.

  • Pro tip: When using the spreadsheet template, do not change the column headers, as this will cause the upload to fail.
