Understanding Ravio's level mapping

Whether you have an established levelling structure or are building one from scratch, Ravio ensures your employees are mapped accurately to our market benchmarks. This guide explains how we sync your internal levels with the Ravio framework during onboarding and how to manage changes as your company grows.

Overview

To provide accurate compensation benchmarks, Ravio creates a ‘correlation table’ that maps your internal levels to the Ravio framework. This ensures that when you view market data, you are comparing ‘like-for-like’ roles, even if your internal job titles or level names differ from the market standard.

Prerequisites

  • Information needed: Details of your internal skills and competencies for each level.

  • Data source: Employee levels stored in your HRIS (Human Resources Information System) or a CSV/Excel file.

  • Integration status: Ideally, your HRIS is connected to allow for automated updates.

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Provide your framework details

During onboarding, the Ravio data team will request your internal levelling documentation.

  1. Share your internal framework (in any format) detailing the requirements for each level.

  2. Ensure each employee in your HRIS has an internal level assigned to them.

  3. Our team will create a mapping between your levels and the Ravio framework.

Step 2: Review the correlation table

Once the mapping is set up, it is stored in your account.

  1. Navigate to your account settings to view the correlation table.

  2. Review how your internal levels (e.g. ‘Level 3’) align with Ravio levels (e.g. ‘P3’).

  3. You can adjust these mappings at any time; changes here will automatically update the mapping for all individual employees assigned to those levels.

Step 3: Manage individual overrides

If a specific employee needs to deviate from the standard mapping, you can set a manual override.

  1. Navigate to the Employee Review screen.

  2. Select the specific employee and manually adjust their Ravio level.

  3. Note: If an employee has an active override, their benchmark will not change even if their details are updated in your HRIS.

What happens when data changes in your HRIS?

Ravio is designed to stay in sync with your HRIS automatically, provided the levels have been mapped previously:

  • New job title: If the title has been mapped before, the employee is automatically matched to the Ravio position. Brand-new titles will require manual mapping by you.

  • New level: If the level is already in your correlation table, the employee maps automatically. If it is a brand-new level, you must add it to the correlation framework first.

  • Promotion/Change: Changes in the HRIS will reflect in Ravio unless a manual override is in place.

Frequently asked questions

What if I don't have an internal level framework?
That is not a problem. Ravio will use its own framework to map your individual employees against a Ravio level automatically.

What if I don’t store levels in my HRIS?
While we recommend using your HRIS for automated updates, you can provide this data via an Excel or CSV upload. Note that you will need to provide a new upload whenever an employee's level changes to keep Ravio up to date.

How do I add entirely new levels or tracks?
To delete levels or add completely new tracks to your framework, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager or email support@ravio.com.

Still need a hand? If your levels aren't appearing correctly after an HRIS sync or you need help with a complex mapping, our team is ready to assist.

  • Pro tip: Keep your internal levels updated in your HRIS to ensure your Ravio benchmarks remain accurate without the need for manual CSV uploads.
